Multivitamin Supplements And HIV Disease Progression

Most people with advanced HIV disease do not receive antiretroviral treatment. WHO aims to increase access to treatment so that patients with advanced disease are treated and patients in the early stages of HIV infection are monitored and given supportive care. Vitamins may modulate immune function and it has been suggested that multivitamin supplements may slow the rate of progression of HIV disease. Multivitamin supplements, including vitamins B1, B2, B12, niacin, vitamin C and E, and folic acid, delay the progression of HIV disease in women and may delay the need for antiretroviral therapy.
